2011 Cheese Tour Weekend Schedule of Activities


Saturday, September 10th from 10 AM to 4 PM

The first day of the Fifth Annual Washington County Cheese Tour. The five participating cheese farms are open to visitors. The tour is free, fun and delicious!

3-Corner Field Farm
Cheese tasting and cheese selling in the barn.
Tours of the farm, fields, milking parlor, cheese room and animals.
Ricotta making demonstration and tasting at noon both days.
On Saturday only, the 4-H Sheep & Kids Klub will demonstrate spinning, knitting and needle felting and sell coffee and cider and handmade wool ornaments throughout the day.
Display and sale of sheep's milk soaps, lambskins, yarn and more.

Argyle Cheese Farmer
4 Sampling and sales of all of their cheeses and yogurts, and their gelato.
Mozzarella stretching demonstration at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM both days.
Mini farmers market with veggies and flowers from Washington County farms on display.
Macaroni and cheese, salads, and drinks available for purchase.

Consider Bardwell Farm
Sampling and sales of all their cheeses in their outdoor tent.
Watch cheese making both days.
Mini lessons on cheese making every hour, including visits to two of their cheese caves.
Short lessons on farming every hour as well.
Self-guided tour of barn and grounds, with map and commentary provided.
The cafe will be open to make lunches or snacks for visitors.

Homestead Artisan Productions at Longview Farm
On Saturday, 10 AM to 2 PM, Running the River, a great singing group, will perform.
Under the maples sampling and sales of their various aged and fresh cow and goat cheeses, all also available for purchase.
Also sales of their pastured pork and their pastured roasting chicken -discover the difference between pastured and industrial meats.
Guided barn tours twice an hour. See the cheese room in action and visit the milking parlor.
Guided pasture tours every hour.
Petting zoo and for hardy folks who can walk up and down the hills, a visit to the kid barn and pigpen.

Sweet Springs Farm
Sampling and sales of fresh goats' milk cheeses.
Goat and kid petting.
Guided tour of farm and facilities.
Historic barn open for viewing.
Local artisinal products for sale.
Morning to night - SALEM, NY - HarvestFest at Salem Art Works, 19 Cary Lane. Craft Fair and Children's Games from 10 AM - 5 PM, followed by "Farm to Fork" Dinner at 6 PM with music from Al & Kathy Bain and a Barn Dance at 9 PM with the Bluebillies. 3:00 PM - Free Cheese Class at Gardenworks, 1055 Route 30, Salem, NY 12865. Hosted by Murray's Cheese Shop in Manhattan and Gardenworks. Join Jason from Murray's and Rob from Gardenworks. Learn, sample and enjoy!
